Located in the heart of West Los Angeles lies a mini-metropolis, Century City. It’s a 176 acre self-contained community that offers business and recreation, luxury living, fashion and food, and guest accommodations.
Once a back lot of 20th Century Fox film studios, which still has its headquarters just to the southwest, the Fox studio commissioned a master-plan development from Welton Becket Associates, which was unveiled at a major press conference on the "western" back lot in May of 1959. In May of 2009, it will be 50 years since the inception of Century City.
In 1961, the film studio sold about 180 acres to developer William Zeckendorf and Aluminum Co. of America, also known as Alcoa. The new owners conceived Century City as "a city within a city". Century City planners made an early commitment to excellence, and their standards have never changed.
Century City has evolved into a professional business center, attracting executives from almost every industry. It houses roughly 2,500 businesses (and 40,000 employees) including bankers, CPAs, lawyers, real estate firms, doctors, the entertainment industry, and more. Its Westfield-owned shopping mall is one of the major retail centers in Los Angeles. Century City is centrally located near Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Westwood and Santa Monica.
